"I had self-diagnosed my difficulty in remembering and expressing myself as dementia.
I was running my own business, and it became more challenging
I was stressed, and I worked hard to mask symptoms from everyone.
Only to discover that it was a symptom of menopause brain fog.
It would have stopped me from worrying unnecessarily for years if I had been informed."

There is a lack of skills and awareness in regard to supporting those experiencing poor mental health or negatively impacted by Menopause in the workplace.

It is to be expected.

They are taboo topics that are not openly spoken about, so you are less informed.

It is estimated that a third of the entire UK female population is
currently pre or menopausal in the UK (Wellbeing of Women)
Also, 1 in 4 people experience mental health issues each year. (England NHS 2023)

This means you are statistically likely to have a colleague experiencing one of these conditions in your workplace.
These colleagues going through Menopause and or experiencing mental health may have:
Brain Fog
Difficulty Sleeping
Weight Gain
Irritable/ Angry
Anxious and Stressed
In the workplace, this translates to:
Presenteeism and lower productivity
Their presentations and contributions at meetings are poor.
Punctuality and attendance have diminished.
Lacks confidence and is withdrawn
Your once efficient colleague has become an inefficient liability. Should you discipline or dismiss them? Is there an alternative?
